Local Realtor(R) Takes the Reins of Sanford-Springvale Rotary Club

Returning to a long-time tradition of having the change-over event (changing of the guard for the Rotary Club of Sanford-Springvale) at the camp belonging to Tom and Judy Jagger on the eastern shore of Mousam Lake, club members and guests gathered for an informal "cook-out", with everyone bringing a side dish of one type or another.  Looking off to the west, with the American flag waving proudly, was the perfect setting for this event, especially to begin the INDEPENDENCE DAY Celebrations over this weekend.

Stepping down from leadership of the Club for the past year were Lawrence Furbish, Barbara Sutcliffe (Furbish) and Heather Thomas Beaupre.  Each of them served in the role of president for a portion of the past twelve months.  Stepping up to the role of president for 2022-2023 is Elias Thomas, Broker/Owner of EXIT Key Real Estate in Shapleigh.  Thomas first served as club president in 1985-1986 and then went on to serve District 7780 as District Governor in 2000-2001.  

"Returning to serve as club president in what will be the club's 100th anniversary will provide a remarkable opportunity for the club to emphasize new projects and to showcase the many local and global projects with which the club has been involved for the past century."  

Following the dinner meal, some of the members gathered as a "Cast of Characters" in a spoof about the incomg president.  Among those participating in the skit were John Caramihalis, Lawrence Furbish, Kim Jagger Lachance,  Jayne Perkins and Leslie Unger.  One attendee, Harland Eastman, opined, "The entertainment was worth the price of admission!"

When asked about his plans for leading the Rotary Club into its second century, Thomas remarked, "It will be an honor and a privilege to celebrate our First CENTURY OF SERVICE, which will be my motto for the coming twelve months.  I hope to culminate the year with a community-wide celebration in the Spring of 2023!"
