LOCAL ROTARY CLUB AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS TO LOCAL STUDENTS

On Monday, May 16, eight local high school students were awarded a total of $16,000 in scholarship aide by the members of the Rotary Club of Sanford-Springvale.

The breakfast event was held at the Sanford Country Club and was attended by Club members, scholars from both Massabesic High School and Sanford High School, as well as the families of the students, James Frizlewicz - principal of Massabesic High School, Matt Nelson - Superintendent of Sanford Schools, and Stephen Marquis - Assistant Superintendent of Schools for RSU #57.

Students from Massabesic High School (RSU#57) included: Andrew CArroll - $1,500; Delia Harms - $2,500; Brianna Stephenson - $2,500; and Caitlyn McAllister - $2,500.

Sanford High School students included: Laila Adawadkar - $1,500; Connoor Curcio - $2,500; Daylin Soule - $1,500 and Taylor Whitten - $2,500.

Fundraising for the scholarship fund for the Rotaray Club began in the 1970's with an annual "MEGA-AUCTION", as well as the sale of Calendars, depicting scenes from Sanford and surrounding towns from years gone by.  Those photographs were provided by past president, Harland Eastman, who had obtained glass negatives from noted photographer, Fred Philpot.
